1979 Princess 2000HL out and about

Post by 100 Club » Mon Jul 08, 2019 11:45 pm

After spending around 4 years in storage while I got on with a few other things, CPL was got out, dusted off and MoT'd last November ready for display at the NEC.
During the time in storage, the electric fuel pump inside the tank gave up the ghost, so I have fitted a temporary inline electric pump in the engine bay for the time being.

Now that the car is being stored closer to home than before, I decided to get her out and do a couple of local shows, although the £265 road tax was rather painful! Roll on April 2020, when she finally qualifies for 'historic' tax :)

And here are a few photos of our recent outings, in the company of some other examples of BL's finest:

I have thought of selling this one a few times in recent years as she doesn't get much use and would free up cash and space to indulge in something else (specifically Rover 620ti or 820) but I only have to have a quick drive in her to remind me why I bought her in the first place :D

And when are you ever going to find another that looks so nice? Lovely to see it out and about and rubbing shoulders with some other quality tin.

Thanks for the compliments, Vulgalour :)

I have put her back on SORN now and will wait to qualify for 'free' tax next April. In the meantime, I intend to obtain and fit a proper replacement in-tank electric fuel pump (these seem to be readily available, although I am not sure if all are of good quality!)

Also a few small areas of paintwork need to be touched up, so i will get on and sort those out.

Regarding the other cars in the pictures, the gold Allegro was my wife's first car 25 years ago and after a couple of years she decided it was far too nice to use every day so she bought a second Allegro HLS for everyday use!

The Marina TC is a regular on the Midlands show circuit and has been in the same ownership since 1977. The unusual rear end treatment is a genuine BL Special Tuning glassfibre bootlid: it is the only one I have ever seen fitted to a car 8-)
