Interior light cover

Post by hiddenevil » Tue Jul 23, 2019 11:41 am

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, but I felt it was both a general question as well as an “I want one, before I stick my finger through another crumbly cover” sort of topic.

I spoke to Martin on FB this morning about this and he suggested I post here.

Interior light covers? Is there just one place to get them from? I have access to a 3d printer (not mine), so potentially I have the tools to print a cover, just I don’t have a design to print.

I’m now on my last interior bulb cover and before I go sticking my thumb through it, like I did the last one. I would love to get my hands on a sturdy replacement. Something that doesn’t have the structural integrity of a wet brown paper bag :lol

I have had two covers 3D printed by a firm that I talked to at the NEC last year. I gave them an original cover and internal lamp body to tune their effort to ensure they fitted well - which they did. They also printed the headlamp adjuster fittings for trapezoidal head lamps for me which turned out ok (no invoice yet...)

So if I call them and say I want an Austin princess interior light cover. They aren't going to think I'm off my rocker, they'll know what I'm babbling on about? :-)

Jeez!!! How much?? How do they justify that? I have a couple of used ones if you want one of them?

I have no idea, time, materials..The item is printed in resin so it looks like a cast piece not 3d printed.

But still, bit too rich for my blood for such a small part.

How much did they charge you?

Sorry I misunderstood your question. No price yet, going to sort it at the NEC. I have two reasonable used ones.

Thought you said you'd had two covers 3D printed by them already? Did you get them for free?

No not free - that's why it's being sorted at the NEC. Yes I did have two printed, I have one in my wedge and the other I sold to a club member at Gaydon

Not sure if I follow, but I hope that doesn't mean you still have to pay them for the two they printed for you. £140 is a lot of cash for such a small thing :-/

I could sell you one of my originals to have printed...they're a bit off-colour (don't forget, they're over 40+ years old) but your printerman should come up with a clearer material.
